Looks like it's tit for tat, but Ukraine's orders are to (1) keep the conflict going by provocation, (2) take potshots at RF, and (3) burn it all down on their way out, so this is what we get.
Honestly, Russia would've been better off if they'd made a much stronger response early on vs civilian targets in prewar Russian territory. I.e. less fighting and many many lives saved. At this point the mechanism for how de-energization would help is faster outmigration from Ukraine rather than a settlement, which isn't pretty. But it will still save lives with the psycopathic regime in Kiev. Better late than never.
It’s the latter. Russia tried last winter, but didn’t quite have the numbers to succeed.
Now we’re seeing daily strikes of hundreds of Gerans, so the tools are there.
And since Zelensky has shown no willingness for peace negotiations, any incentive to hold back is gone.
